The Piteå Summer Games is an international youth football tournament held every summer in Piteå, a town in Norrbotten, Sweden's northernmost county. Teams come mainly from Sweden, Norway and Finland, as well as from countries outside Europe. A distinctive feature is the chance to play under the midnight sun, when the sun does not set. 📅 Tournament dates · The 2027 tournament runs from Friday 2 July to Sunday 4 July 2027. · Teams using the organizers' accommodation can check in from Thursday 1 July. · Registration opens on Monday 7 September 2026 at 12:00, and each age category closes once it is full. 📍 Venues · The tournament office address is Olof Palmes Gata 6F, 941 33 Piteå. · Matches are spread across several football pitches in and around Piteå. ⚽ Categories · Boys' categories range from B8 (born 2019) to B17 (born 2010). · Girls' categories range from G8 (born 2019) to G17/18/19 (born 2008–2010). · B8, B9, G8 and G9 play 5-a-side; B10–B12 and G10–G12 play 7-a-side; B13, B14C, G13 and G14C play 9-a-side; B14–B17 and G14–G17/18/19 play 11-a-side. · B11/12F and G11/12F are friendly categories combining two age groups and are played 7-a-side. 🏆 Participating teams · According to official records for the 2026 tournament, 922 teams took part. · They came from 10 countries: Sweden 519 teams, Norway 289, Finland 96, Estonia 8, Mongolia 3, Argentina 2, Mexico 2, Peru 1, Ukraine 1 and the United Kingdom 1. · All 2,237 matches were completed over three days. ⏱ Match format · 11-a-side and 9-a-side matches last 25 minutes per half, 7-a-side 20 minutes per half and 5-a-side 15 minutes per half. · After the group stage, the top teams in each group go into the knockout stage. Every team is scheduled for at least 4 matches and plays at least one match per day. · Group rankings are decided by points, goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head result and drawing of lots. · If a knockout match ends in a draw, five players from each team take penalties under FIFA rules, followed by sudden death. · In line with Swedish Football Association rules, the 8–10 age categories and the 11/12F friendly categories have no knockout stage or standings. 🏟 Tournament operations · Accommodation is provided in community centres, churches, kindergartens, sports halls and school classrooms, run jointly by the local facility owners and the Municipality of Piteå. · Teams using the accommodation stay from Thursday to Sunday and receive eight meals, from Friday breakfast to Sunday lunch, plus the tournament shuttle bus. · At least 1 and up to 4 coaches or accompanying adults must stay with each team in its accommodation. · All players and coaches must wear a participant wristband to play, enter the accommodation and use the dining hall. · Quiet hours apply in the accommodation from 00:00 to 06:00, and a fee of 3,000 Swedish kronor is charged if the cleaning inspection before check-out is not passed. 🌊 About the area · Piteå is a town in Norrbotten in northern Sweden, where the sun barely sets in summer. · At this tournament, 11-a-side, 9-a-side and 7-a-side teams can all request midnight sun matches starting at 10 pm, playing in daylight without floodlights.
How to enter
Registration for the Piteå Summer Games is done on the team registration page of the official website. Registration for the 2027 tournament opens on Monday 7 September 2026 at 12:00, and each age category closes once it is full, so it is worth preparing in line with these dates. 1. Register your team on the official website from 12:00 on 7 September 2026. 2. Pay the registration fee within 10 days of registering. If it is not paid on time, the registration is cancelled; you may apply again, but a place is not guaranteed. 3. The registration fee is 1,800 Swedish kronor for teams using the organizers' accommodation. For teams not using it, the fee is 1,000 kronor for ages 8–9, 3,500 kronor for ages 10–12, 4,000 kronor for ages 13–16 and 5,000 kronor for ages 17–19. The registration fee is non-refundable. 4. The registration fee includes 2 T-shirts for coaches and 1 team bag. 5. Pay the participation fee by 30 April 2027. Participation fee A, including accommodation, meals and shuttle bus, is 1,750 kronor per person. Participation fee B, without accommodation, is 120 kronor per person for 5-a-side and 7-a-side and 200 kronor per person for 9-a-side and 11-a-side. Participation fee C, covering meals and the shuttle bus without accommodation, is 1,250 kronor per person. 6. The participation fee is refunded only on submission of a valid medical certificate, and an extra 200 kronor is charged if it is not paid by the deadline. 7. Apply for age exemptions by 23 May 2027 if there is no additional cost, or by 6 June if paid exemptions are included. Player transfers and requests for special meals, T-shirts and extra meals must also be completed by 6 June. 8. When paying from abroad, send a SEPA transfer to IBAN SE4280000826440436203319, BIC SWEDSESS, and include your registration number, team name and age category with the payment.
