The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is an international inter-school youth football tournament held every year in New Delhi, India. It is named after Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, the first Chief of the Air Staff of India; he conceived it in 1958, and after his death in 1960 the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society was founded and held the first tournament. Since 1994 it has been run by the Air Force Sports Control Board. The information below is based on the previous edition, for which official information is available. 📅 Schedule The 2027 dates have not yet been announced. The previous, 65th edition was held in separate divisions across August and September. · One division ran for a little over ten days from mid to late August. · The Boys U17 division was played in September. Teams in India go through qualifiers (Pre-Subroto Cup) held in each state and union territory before the main tournament. 📍 Venue At the previous edition, group matches were played at the Subroto Park, Pinto Park, Tejas and Rajokri football grounds in New Delhi. Major matches, including the semi-finals and final, were held at the BR Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi. ⚽ Divisions There are three divisions. · Boys Sub-Junior U15 · Boys Junior U17 · Girls Junior U17 Until 1997 only Boys U17 was held; Boys U14 (now U15) was added in 1998 and Girls U17 in 2012. 🏆 Teams The first tournament started with about 50 school teams from Delhi, and now more than 34,000 school teams from across India take part in the qualifiers. The main tournament includes school champions from each state and union territory, plus invited school teams from abroad. Recent foreign participants listed in the official information are Brazil, Australia, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Switzerland, Sweden, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Israel, Bhutan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Uzbekistan. ⏱ Match format The tournament combines league and knockout stages. Matches follow the FIFA Laws of the Game as adopted by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Air Force Sports Control Board (SSCB). 🏟 Organization The tournament is run by the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society, and since 1994 it has been conducted by the Air Force Sports Control Board. Qualifiers start at district and zone level in each state and union territory and lead to an inter-school state final; state champions are invited to the main tournament in New Delhi. On August 29, 2016, the Society received the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar from the President of India for its contribution to promoting sport. 🌊 About the area New Delhi, where the main tournament is held, is the capital of India and the city where the first tournament took place in 1960. Matches are spread across several football grounds in the New Delhi capital region.
