Kronborg Cup is an international youth football tournament held every year in Helsingør, Denmark, in the last week of the school summer holidays. It started in 2008 as a small tournament with 20 teams from local clubs, but it has grown so that 430 teams registered for the 18th edition in 2026. The opening event at the culture harbour overlooked by Kronborg Castle and the parade through town are its signature moments. 📅 Schedule · The 2027 tournament is expected to run from Friday, August 6 to Sunday, August 8. Dates may change once the organizers make an official announcement. · The opening event is on Friday afternoon, group matches are on Saturday, and placement matches and finals are on Sunday. · The 18th edition in 2026 ran from Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9, with an application deadline of May 17. 📍 Venue · Matches are played at eight sports grounds in Helsingør Municipality, on more than 50 grass pitches. · The sports grounds used are Borsholm, Espergærde (Mørdrup), Helsingør Idrætspark, Hornbæk, Snekkersten, Tikøb, Kvistgård and Kulturhavn Kronborg. · Each age division is played at one location, and each team plays all its matches at the same venue throughout the tournament. ⚽ Divisions · Boys born 2010 to 2021 and girls born 2011 to 2021 take part. · Matches are 11-a-side, 8-a-side, 5-a-side and 3-a-side, and most age groups have three levels: A, B and C. 🏆 Teams · 430 teams registered for the 18th edition in 2026. · According to official statistics, teams by country were Denmark 357, Sweden 49, Finland 9, Norway 8 and Nigeria 1. · Recent editions had 542 teams in 2023, 486 in 2024 and 454 in 2025, consistently above 400. ⏱ Match format · Every team plays at least five matches over the weekend. · The qualifying round uses groups of 4 teams, and based on group results teams are split into A (1st–4th), B (5th–8th), C (9th–12th) and D (13th–16th) knockout tournaments. · Match length is 2 x 20 minutes for 11-a-side, 2 x 15 minutes for 8-a-side, 2 x 12 minutes for 5-a-side, and 10 minutes for 3-a-side. · The 2026 tournament had 1,100 matches and about 5,000 goals. 🏟 Organization · It is run jointly by seven local clubs in Helsingør Municipality: Borsholm Skibstrup IF, Espergærde IF, Kvistgård, Helsingør IF, Hornbæk IF, Snekkersten IF and Tikøb IF. · About 800 volunteers run the tournament, and the proceeds go to the youth sections of the organizing clubs. 🌊 About the area · Helsingør is a town at the north-eastern tip of Zealand on the Øresund strait, and Kronborg Castle, the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. · Sweden is visible directly across the strait, and the beaches of North Zealand and the culture harbour are close to the venues.
How to enter
Applications for Kronborg Cup are accepted through the online registration system on the official website. Most divisions fill up, so applying early is advisable. If there is a waiting list, teams that applied including accommodation have priority. 1. Create an account in the team registration section of the official website kronborgcup.dk and apply online. 2. Choose the age division and level (A, B or C) and enter the team details. The organizers may move registered teams up or down a level. 3. Book an accommodation package at the same time: school accommodation, youth hostel, holiday village or hotel. 4. Before arrival, register the team's total number of people, shuttle bus use and food allergy information online. 5. Check-in at the accommodation is possible from 12 noon on Friday, the first day, and meal tickets are collected at the opening event the same day. 📌 Summary of the registration process · Application deadline: for the 2026 tournament it was May 17 (Monday). Please check the official announcement for the 2027 deadline. · Waiting list: teams are contacted individually by June 1. · Accommodation packages: school accommodation from DKK 675 per person, youth hostel or holiday village from DKK 1,095 per person, including meals for the whole stay. · Shuttle bus: DKK 309 per person, including a 3% fee. · Refunds: cancellations before the deadline are refunded; cancellations after the deadline are not. If a team is not accepted, the fee is always refunded. · Roster size: up to 18 players for 11-a-side and 15 for 8-a-side.
